- Geographic location : The province is bounded by Cambodia to the north and north west, Kien Giang to the west, Can Thơ to the south, Dong Thap to the east.

- Area: 3,536.8 km2

- Topographic features: An Giang is one among two provinces having hills and mountains in Mekong delta. Hills and mountains are found in Tinh Bien and Tri Ton district, in the north of the province.

- Administrative units: Include Long Xuyên city, the town of Chau Doc and 9 districts: An Phu, Chau Phu, Chau Thanh, Cho Moi, Phu Tan, Tan Chau, Thoai Son, Tinh Bien, Tri Ton.

 - Population: 2.210.400 persons (year 2006)

Tourism resources: An Giang has distinctive historical monuments in Tuc Dup, Nui Cam - Tinh Bien, cultural remains in Oc Eo – Thoai Son, Tra Su cajuput forest, Long Xuyên floating market.
Human resources: The agricultural labour force accounted for  46,66%; industry labour force accounted for 14,07%; Labor force in commerce and other sectors accounted for 39,27%.

Infrastructures

- Transportation system: Transportation infrastructures in An Giang include roadway and waterway. The roadway system is quite convenient with National highway No. 91 connecting to road No.2 of Cambodia, Laos and Thailand through Tinh Bien and Vinh Suong border gate.
Waterway:Tien and Hau rivers are two important waterways connecting An Giang and Mekong river delta to Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. Besides, the network of grade 2, grade 3 channels allow the circulation of 50-100 ton boats.  My Thoi water port has capacity of receiving over 0.5 million ton of goods per year.

Power supply system: 100% of the local communes were connected to the national power grid. There are 1,200 km medium voltage cable, 1,300 km low voltage cable and 1,410 transformer stations with total capacity of 96.242 KVA.
- Water system: An Giang has 53 clean water supply units in city, towns, and residential areas with total capacity of 60,000m3/day. A water plant is being built in Long Xuyên with the capacity of 34.000 m3/day. Local water quality is of national standard.

- Post and telecommunication system: Since 1998, An Giang had connected to global internet.  Online inquiry service of 108 can rapidly provide social economic information to customers.  Vinaphone and MobiFone network covered 100 town, communes, and districts. Besides, An Giang has the services of Viettel with its national and international telephone service.
Industrial zones: An Giang has 2 big industry zones: Binh Hoa (146 ha) in Châu Thành district; Binh Long (41,75 ha)  located beside National highwayNo. 91 and Hau river, in Chau Phu district. Besides, An Giang has other small industry zones as: Hoa An (20 ha) in Cho Moi  district; Phu Hoa (19 ha) in Thoai Son district; Tan Trung (20 ha) in Phu Tân district etc."

- GDP growth rate : It is planned to reach GDP growth rate of 12%, with the increase of 15.3% in service sector, 16,7% in industry and construction, 3,6% in agriculture, forestry, fishery. Services will account for 59,70%; Industry and construction account for 15,49%; Agriculture, forestry, fishery account for 24,81%.

- Sectors’ development plan:
            + Services: It is planned to reach 15.3% annual growth rate for service sector in period of 2006-2010 with focus on developing high value and competitive advance services such as restaurant, commerce, repair, transportation, communication, finance, consulting etc; Focusing on human resource development, encouraging development of small and medium business to create stimuli for rapid economic development.

            + Agriculture-Forestry-Fishery: It is planned to reach 3.6% annual growth rate in period of 2006-2010 by intensively developing the agriculture economy (mainly fish + rice + vegetable) with special attention to comprehensiveness, quality for export and domestic market development; Changing the agriculture structure and agriculture economy to develop sustainable development, implementing “to live with flood”; apply modern technology, especially the biology technology to improve efficiency, quality, clean product production, storage and processing.

            + Industry: Maintain the growth rate of 16,7% in period of 2006-2010 with focus on the local key industries with competitive advance such as agriculture and fishery processing, foodstuff, building material production, mechanic, garment, shoes; Encouraging development of handicraft industry for tourism and to promote economic development in rural area. "
