Geographic location : The province is bounded by Cần Thơ and Kiên Giang to the north west; Sóc Trăng to north east; Cà Mau to south west; South China Sea to the south
Area: 2,584.1 km2.
Topographic features: Bạc Liêu has topographic features of quite flat land. The terrain slightly slopes from north east to south west, from the sea to the mainland.
Administrative units: Include the town of Bạc Liêu and 6 districts: Hoà Bình; Đông Hải; Giá Rai; Hông Dân; Phước Long; Vĩnh Lợi.
Population: 819,000 people (year 2007)
Natural resources: Most of the land is stable sediment and suitable for comprehensive agriculture development. Total land for annual cultivation of paddy, vegetable, industrial crops is about 98,295 ha; Land available for forestry, shrimp breeding, and salt production is 125,546 ha. Besides, Bạc Liêu has various, abundant sea resources with the coast line of 56km and offshore territory of 40,000 km2. There are 661 species, 319 races, 138 groups of fish and sea species. Many of them are of high value and high exploitation potentiality such as shrimp, red snapper, codfish, butterfish etc.
Tourism resources: Bạc Liêu has strong advance in ecology and sea tourism with distinctive natural landscapes as bird garden, longan garden and many historical literal monuments as: Vĩnh Hưng, Nọc Nạng ancient tower, President Hồ Chí Minh temple, commemoration house of ex-musician Cao Văn Lầu, system of temples and pagoda etc.
Human resources: The labour force is 504,535, in which, number of labourers working in agro – forestry sector is 166,790; in fishery is 92,325; in industry is 30,617; and in trading and services is 53,565.
Transportation system: Local transportation infrastructures include waterway and roadway. National highway No.1A runs through the province (total length of 68 km in the province) makes it really convenient for transportation and economic development. However, major transportation means in Bạc Liêu is waterway with total 324.5km long.
Post and telecommunication system: The province has a complete post and communication system. The system allows provincial, national and international communication with various service types such as telephone, telegram, telegraphy, facsimile, email etc. The province has 1 central post office, 5 district post offices, 43 local post offices and 39,409 telephone subscribers.
