Tay Ninh

Geographic location : The province is bounded by Cambodia in the west and north west, by Bình Dương, Bình Phước in the east, by Hồ Chí Minh city and Long An in the south.

Area: 4,035.9 km2

Administrative units: Include the town of Tây Ninh and 8 districts of: Tân Biên, Tân Châu, Dương Minh Châu, Châu Thành, Hoà Thành, Bến Cầu, Gò Dầu, Trảng Bàng.

Population: 1,053,800  (year 2007)

Natural resources: Tây Ninh does not have many mineral resources. The major mineral is peat ( about 16 million tons laying along Vàm Cỏ Ðông river); High quality clay (about 16 million m3 laying along Vàm Cỏ Ðông river); Natural mineral water (in Ninh Ðiền commune, Châu Thành district); sand with gravels with high volume in the rivers of Sài Gòn, Vàm Cỏ Ðông; building stone (about 40 million m3 ) in Bà Ðen mountain, Hòa Thành district etc.

- Tourism resources: The province’s tourism resources (natural and cultural ones) are quite various with famous places of interest such as Bà Đen mountain, Cao Đài Tây Ninh holy house, Dầu Tiếng water reservour, Lò Gò - Xa Mát national park, especially the monuments of revolutionary time such as The South Central Commander Base, The South Central Security Base, the base of interim government of the South Viet Nam Republic, the base of people revolution frontier etc.

- Human resources: The province labour force is abundant thanks to its young population.  Total labour force accounts for 57% of the population with about 500.000 labourers. The labourr are quite well trained with 95% literate people. A half of the labour force aged under 20 and every year, approx 13,000 -14,000 teenagers start joining the labour market.

Transportation system
: Tây Ninh has two main transportation means: roadway and waterway. There are two important roadway systems of Tran-Asia Road and National highway No.22. These are two strategic roadway routes in the socio-economic-security-defense development of of the province and the area. There are two systems of waterway: Sai Gon river and Vam Co Dong river. Tay Ninh has river port of Bến Kéo on Vàm Cỏ Đông river (just 7 km from Tay Ninh town). The port allows the circulation of 2.000 ton ships.

- Power supply system: Tây Ninh is supplied with electricity from two sources: Thác Mơ and Trị An hydropower plants. 100% communes in the province are connected to the national grid and 62,35% households are using electricity. The average electricity usage is 175Kwh/person/year. 60% households in rural area are using electricity. The Trảng Bàng station is going to be upgraded to sell electricity to Svay-ri-eng province of Cambodia.
 
- Post and telecommunication system: Over the past years, the system has been developed rapidly. The are about 2,5 telephones in 100 people. Average distance between post offices is 5.17km. There are two mobile phone networks of Vinaphone và VMS, two active page message network of Việt Nam and Sài Gòn EPRO. Presently, the internet can be accessed indirectly. In the province, the communication is possible domestically and internationally.
- Industrial zones: Tây Ninh has 2 industrial zones: Tràng Bảng IZ (1.650 ha) An Tịnh commune, Trảng Bàng district; Trâm Vàng IZ (479 ha) in Thanh Phước commune, Gò Dầu district.

Sectors’ development plan:
 + Services: Focus on developing the Mộc Bài and Xa Mát border gate economic zones, making them become a trading complex to promote cross border trading; Develop Tây Ninh tourism in connection with reservation of historical, cultural monuments and natural heritages; Encourage investment on tourism zones of the Town - Bà Đen mountain, Thiện Ngôn - The South Central Commander Base, etc.

            + Agriculture-Forestry-Fishery:
Agriculture: Promote intensive cultivation to guarantee supply for processing industry and gradually increase the proportion of export of high quality products; Modify planned areas of sugarcane, cassava cultivation.
Forestry: Protect the existing forestry land and develop protection forests to preserve the ecology system. Besides the local natural forest, develop planted rubber and perennial fruit-tree forests to improve the economic efficiency and guarantee sustainable development.
Fishery: Optimize using water surface of local rivers and lakes to develop comprehensive aquaculture to satisfy the local demands and export to international markets.


            + Industry: Encourage development of farm products processing, especially sugar, wheat flour, rubber industries, intensive labour industries such as garment etc; Prepare conditions to develop the industries for commercial goods and high tech products; Concentrate on comprehensive investment on develop mechanical sector to serve the agriculture activities; Promote the traditional handicrafts in connection with the development of medium and small businesses in rural area"
